In 1994 "Kazbegi 1881" bought the Tbilisi brewery at the auction. The founder of the company is Gogi Topadze. By that time, the plant had been completely devastated and robbed. 1,5 million USD was invested in its reconstruction and modern technological equipment.
"Kazbegi 1881” is a rare exception in the Georgian economy, as it is the only company that has been created with only Georgian capital.
"Ananuri"- was the first beer, which the company produced in the spring of 1995. Then followed "Pshavi" and "Kazbegi". The company became a market leader in a year.
At present "Kazbegi 1881" produces the beers of three different denominations- "Mebaduri", "Tradiciuli" and "Kazbegi".
Draught beer is also produced here, which supplies the chain of restaurant and pubs. In 2005 a new stage of plant reconstruction started. Territory and capacities were increased. The plant capacity today is a million dekalitres of beer.
Beer making in plants started in Georgia in 1859. The first brewery in Tbilisi was located in Didi Mtavris street (now Uznadze str.) and it was founded by a German entrepreneur, Ventzel. The brewery started its operations at its full capacity in 1881.
